Love, Me.

Love is in the air like the cool breeze upon your face on a crisp, spring day.

Sometimes we think of love (especially during Valentine's day and the month of February) as love from a significant other. The chocolate hearts and flowers remind us of love or remind us we are alone.

According to CNBC, Americans plan to spend a whopping $26 billion (yes, with a 'b'). This isn't usually spending for ourselves, it's to profess one day of love for our loved ones. I have to admit, I did contribute to that by buying a greeting card and maybe some extra groceries (we cooked a nice dinner in).

What if Valentine's Day didn't start with love for others, but love for ourselves?

What if we reflected on our love for ourselves by writing a love letter to us?

While I do agree that we should give and share with others how much we love them, I am confident that the love starts with ourselves.

About 10 or 15 years ago, I began periodically writing love letters (once every few years) to myself. Always slightly different, but it would include things like my current state, things I was struggling with, and the confidence and the love that I wanted for my future self. Also, I added encouragement for my future self.

It was a form of nurturing. It was from the most compassionate and loving me that saw the best and the core of who I truly was inside.

It was a form of pure love.

I believe that it had healing benefits for me: increased awareness, more emotional intelligence, and stress reduction. Benefits that I believe are similar to journaling.

What if this and every February, you wrote a love letter to yourself and then kept it for safekeeping for years later to read and reflect?

Speaking of writing a love letter, it's been a few years since I wrote a letter to myself.

Let me get to writing...

Will you consider writing one too?

Maybe in the near future, Valentine's Day will always start with love for ourselves.

There's an old saying, "We can't give to others what we don't have." I believe that is true with love.

If you'd like to learn more about self-love or mindset, I'd love to connect!

You are worth it.

Love, me.
