The Comfort Zone.

This was my "happy" place for much of my life. Or so I thought.

I wanted to stay within the "walls" of my comfort zone because they felt safe. In doing this, I realized the "walls" were not actually "walls" but prison bars that entrapped me from being the best version of me.

The Comfort Zone sounds like a cozy, plush couch that you can sink into after a long day of work. In actuality, it's a sterile, cold, echoey, and empty room with metal bars, much like a prison: locked away and keeping you from liberation.

In my comfort zone, I don't have to try something new and watch my goals fail, and I don't need to exert extra energy, but if I continued being in the comfort zone, I would lose it all: my soul.

I would lose my true essence of wanting to become the best version of myself.

I would do a disservice to myself.

And maybe that wouldn't feel like much in the short term. In the long term though, what could that bring?

Right. Regret. Heartache. Unrealized dreams and desires. Further from becoming the best version of myself.

You may remember from my previous post about fear, that public speaking was a huge fear of mine. I skated around public speaking for as long as I could until I finally did something about it. That was my comfort zone. When I finally got over my fear of public speaking, that was when I felt true freedom. You see, I was becoming the best version of myself and that felt liberating.

Picture this: Today is your 85th birthday and you just get through blowing out your candles. You look back at your life.

Are there regrets? Are there things you wish you would have done that you didn't do? Did you stay in your comfort zone so much that it took you from becoming the best version of yourself?

If there were any regrets you had, what are they?

Is there a step you can do today toward the regret you had today?

The beautiful thing is we are in the present now. The power is in the present.

Stop scrolling. Get out your pen and notepad or iPhone (it can do seemingly everything these days) and take note of one thing you can do today and some things you can do in the future towards the regrets you had on your 85th birthday.

Take that step today toward true liberation. The best is yet to come.
